About Halifax

The former Halifax Building Society, now renamed Halifax is since 2006 a trading division of Bank of Scotland, which is part of Lloyds Banking Group since 2009. It is the UK’s first provider of residential mortgages and savings accounts. It reached the 5th place at the British Bank Awards 2016. Its name comes from the town of Halifax, West Yorkshire, where the building society was established in 1853. During the years it became the UK’s largest building society and maintained this position until 1997.
